- The Pure Power Mouthguard – For High Impact Contact Sports
Athletes, get the best out of your game! The Pure Power Mouthguard is a sports enhancing mouthguard that increases strength, flexibility, balance endurance.
It’s called a Pure Power Mouthguard, and it works by setting your bite in a position that relaxes your face and head muscles and thereby allows the rest of the body to relax. The result, users claim, is more strength, better balance and a greater range of motion.
If your bite is crooked, the rest of your body will try to compensate, putting your balance out of whack. And a bad bite will send bad signals to the brain.
The Pure Power Mouthguard was an accidental offshoot from the treatment of a common jaw pain called TMJ, Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome. Patients treated with a neuromuscular mouthpiece reported increased strength and balance. From those findings, Dr. Anil Makkar of Canada developed the Pure Power Mouthguard.
I have already outfitted the Huntsville Havoc hockey team, as well some of the Tennessee Titans, Michael Turner of the Atlanta Falcons, and some Auburn Tigers.

Last fall, I helped outfit Tim Tebow before the Florida Gators quarterback won the Heisman Trophy. And the National Championship??..hmmm….
It’s just really exploding. We estimate that within five years, the Pure Power Mouthguard will be standard equipment in all major sports.
Getting fitted for the mouthpiece is far more than the boil-and-bite types used by most athletes in contact sports. It takes at least an hour.
After a process of relaxing the facial muscles with electric stimulation, and taking impression molds of the patient’s bite, me and my assistants hooks up eight sensors to the patient’s face, which a computer monitors for tension.
We have the patient move the jaw around until the computer shows the jaw relaxed. We then make another impression mold of that jaw position to send to the manufacturer in Canada.
The mouth guard can be made to fit over the upper or lower teeth. The upper is recommended for contact sports. The lower is for sports such as running, cycling, golf, gymnastics and weight lifting.
The Pure Power Mouthguard has a twofold benefit for football and hockey players who have used basic mouthpieces. Biting down on a basic mouthpiece worsens the jaw alignment and makes an athlete weaker. So the new mouthguard not only removes the weakness, but adds enhanced performance.
Another benefit, is the mouthguard places the jaw in the forward and down position that opens the airways, giving the body 20-30 percent more oxygen with every breath. That means less fatigue at the end of the game or workout.
A few hundred professional athletes have been outfitted with mouth guards, and I expect the special mouth guard eventually will catch on with the recreational adults after the pro athletes prove it works.
Though there probably will be enough demand for the special mouth guards in the near future where I could focus solely on outfitting athletes with them, I enjoy my regular dental practice too much to give it up.
